The Time Is Now!

What are you waiting for?

Turning 40 is one of those milestones where you’re supposed to officially become middle aged, and your youth is well and truly over. You start ticking new ‘age boxes’ that no longer include any 30’s numbers, and to add insult to injury, people start referring to you as getting ‘old’!

You could react to turning 40, in a number of ways. It could be just another year where you become little older and a little wiser, which for most is great. However, you could get deeply depressed about it, and wallow in the fact that half of your life is over and feel like you still haven’t achieved very much.

Neither one of these options appealed to me.

2019 has been my 40th year and I have spent time reflecting on the past and thinking about what my future may hold. I have re-connected with old friends, celebrated with new ones and made lots of new memories, which I will always treasure. Alongside all of the good times and reminiscing, this year has lead me to a very important realisation.

I am at a point in my life where I feel like I’m just getting started. I have worried for too long about things that have happened in the past, and wasted precious time fretting about what is going to happen in the future. I know I have obsessed about things that I cannot change and I have not appreciated the present moment.

This is now going to stop! The time is now — my time is now. I am not middle aged, I am in my prime and I do not regret any of the decisions in my life that have lead me to this point. I have never been in a place where I feel so self-assured and comfortable in my own skin, and I am going to make the most of it from now on.

Don’t Hold Yourself Back!

All of us can worry about the negative experiences we have had in our past, as well as the uncertainty of the future. What we sometimes forget, is that we have come through those experiences with strength and a greater understanding of ourselves and the world around us.

Our perceptions and ideas are largely shaped through our childhood, but as adults, we are able to choose our own path. We can also choose to either move forward or stand still, and often we decide to remain static, because the unknown is frightening.

I have now reached a point where I am no longer willing to let any more time slip by because I have not had the courage to do what I love. I do not want to be in the same position in 1 year, 2 years or 3 years time, where I still feel the same and nothing has changed.

Do you want to be in exactly the same position next year?

Life will not just happen for you, no matter how hard you wish for it, or fill your head with positive thoughts. The only way to truly change your life is to work out what it is you want to do, and step out of your comfort zone.

To quote Mel Robbins, a woman for whom I have great admiration,

“The price of your new life, is your old one.”

What is it that you need to change in your life?
